The World’s Oldest Bookstore
I came to Lisbon, Portugal knowing pretty much nothing about the country. So when I found out that the world’s oldest bookstore, certified by Guinness World Records, was in Lisbon I had to go check it out. Let me make a note at this point that all I knew about the bookstore was that it’s name was Bertrand. I typed in ‘Bertrand bookstore’ into Google, found one, and walked about 2 miles to get to it. Turns out that Bertrand is a chain of bookstores with over 50 locations, and this was DEFINITELY not the one I was looking for. Total waste of time, but hey, at least I killed a few calories in the process. I’ll be fat-to-fit in no time! Just kidding.
Much to my surprise, the actual Bertrand bookstore I was looking for was practically around the corner from my hostel (Living Lounge Hostel), and I had actually walked past it a few times unbeknownst to me. This was likely due to the fact that #1, I don’t go to bookstores much, so wasn’t looking out for one, and #2, the signage for the place is pretty damn small, with nothing screaming at you, “HEY, WE’RE ONE OF THE OLDEST THINGS IN ALL THE WORLD…COME LOOK AT ME!
